Hire a tinny and head out to the fertile ground of the Great Barrier Reef from Mission Beach and you will return back to your accommodation with a fish dinner for sure. If you do not have a boat licence then just call a local fishing company and they will take you out and show you all the best spots and the best bait to use or just take your kids and fish straight off the beach or in the local rivers
In the Green season the Tully River is at its peak and white water rafting enthusiasts come from the world over to try this world famous wild river ride for themselves. Fishermen and fisherwomen hit the ocean to catch the big game fly fish, Tuna and Mackerel as this part of the reef is alive with fish riding the great eastern current. The rainforest is lush and blooming with fruits and berries so the animal activity is at its peak and the perfect time to see the Cassowary and their chicks foraging for food.
There is nothing like getting out in the great outdoors for some sunshine and exercise and there are well planned and well- marked walking and hiking trials all over Mission Beach starting right on the beachfront, out in the rainforests, in the mountains and on the Atherton Tablelands for visitors to enjoy. When staying in Mission Beach call into the Mission Beach information centre and pick up a local walking and hiking trail guide to get you going and whatever you do don’t forget the sun screen, water and insect repellent.

Mission Beach itself is a quiet little hamlet made up of quite a number of beaches and bays and small villages that serve the permanent residents and the thousands of visitors that visit annually. Hire a boat and go fishing on the Great Barrier Reef, go hiking thru the rainforest mountains and trails, take a water taxi out to Dunk Island and hike the island, have a relaxing massage on, or jump out of an aeroplane down onto the beach.
