Things to Do While it's Raining in the Rainforest

White water rafting on the Tully is extreme in the peak of the Green Season. Raging waters cascading down the mountains that toss your little boat about and dunk you into the cold crystal clear waters. It's a must do for the adventurer!

Or just come out to Tully River with a picnic and watch others cascading down the waterfalls in rubber rafts and take some photos of the action.

Don't hesitate to go out snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef as the precipitation is mostly over the land and feeding the mountains and rainforests and you will find often that it is sunny out on the sea with not a cloud in the sky. Ahh life in the tropics!

The rainforest is a buzz with critters coming out to enjoy the rain. Grab yourself a rain poncho from the Visitor Information Centre and some maps and local knowledge and head of with food water and a sense of adventure.

Jump on the local bus and take a tour around Mission Beach to familiarize yourself with the different beachfront villages.

In Mission Beach visit Helen Wiltshire Gallery on the Village Green, or visit C4, the Wet Tropics Environment Information Centre.

Join an aerobics or Pilates class or use the gymnasium equipment at Mission Beach Gym and Fitness Centre. It's a little hard to find so get directions and it also not open on weekends.

Visit the local library in Wongaling Beach.

How about a luxurious massage and spa treatment over looking the beachfront for two then a long lunch in a seaside café or restaurant? Make sure you book early though!

Have a game of ten pin bowling at Innisfail.

Drive south to Ingham and visit the Wallaman waterfalls and have a nice lunch at Port Hinchinbrook.

How about a game of Bingo on Monday evenings at the regular time of 7.30pm at Mission Beach Resort?

Or a friendly game of Bridge with the locals on Monday and Friday afternoons in Tully.

Take the kids to see the cane crushing at the Tully Sugar Mill during the months of June to November. This will teach them sugar does not come out of a packet.

Take a longer drive and head to Townsville to visit the Great Barrier Reef Aquarium (Reef HQ) along with the Museum of North Queensland where you can admire the old wreck and reclaimed treasures of the Pandora.

Take a drive to the tablelands it may just be dry up there and you can call into the quaint little country towns to see historic buildings, waterfalls, hiking trails, and call into historic pubs for great counter lunches and a few laughs with the locals.

Whatever you do don't worry about the rain its still nice and warm and all the critters love it and move around a lot more in the cooler climate. The rain is what makes the Mission Beach region so special and so beautiful.

Just ensure you have the right gear and you're off for some action and adventure.
